Overview of free economic zones

Uzbekistan established over 20 free economic zones (FEZ) in its territory to promote rapid economic growth, including:

  • manufacturing free economic zones Navoi FEZ, Angren FEZ, Jizzakh FEZ, Urgut FEZ, Gijduvon FEZ, Kokand FEZ, Khazorasp FEZ, Nukus FEZ, Sirdaryo FEZ, Chiroqchi FEZ, Namangan FEZ, Termez FEZ
  • pharmaceutical free economic zones Zomin-Pharm FEZ, Boysun-Pharm FEZ, Sirdaryo-Pharm FEZ, Kosonsoy-Pharm FEZ, Bustonlik-Pharm FEZ, Parkent-Pharm FEZ, Andijon-Pharm FEZ
  • agricultural free economic zones Bukhoro-Agro FEZ and Qoraqalpoq-Agro FEZ
  • free tourist zone Charvak and tourist-recreation zone Zomin

Free economic zones are spread across all the regions of Uzbekistan.

Investor's participation in a free economic zone is dependent on positive consideration of an investment application. Investment project proposed for implementation on the territory of a free economic zone must target development of high-value products not produced in Uzbekistan or whose local production volumes do not satisfy domestic market, or which are entirely oriented to export.

Production of weapons and ammunition, cement, concrete, bricks, coal, lime and gypsum products, alcohol and tobacco products, oil refineries, nuclear installations are not allowed in free economic zones. Other requirements for investment projects may also apply.
